Frequently Asked Questions - FAQ's

SOP&POP Automatic login
Mapping a drive
Completely Removing Mail Server From System

Q Can SOP & POP be made to login automatically as a particular user.

A Yes it can. This can be useful either for speed, or where you want to make sure SOP&POP is only used with a particualer User Name & Password giving a particular security level & range of options.

Basically the SET command ...... SET SECURITY=USERNAME, PASSWORD ..... needs to be added to the environment that SOP&POP runs in. SOP&POP will automatically login using the USERNAME & PASSWORD

The procedure is slightly different with different operating sytems.

Windows 95/98

The set command needs to be added to the AUTOEXEC.BAT file in the C drive root folder

1. Find the file using 'My Computer', C drive, you should see AUTOEXEC.BAT in the C:\ directory. Right click on the file to get a list of options, then left click on Edit option.

2. You should now be editing the file in Notepad. If there are other existing SOP&POP SET= commands like SET TERMID= or SET PRINTID=, add the new SET SECURITY= command in that area.

3. Add the SET SECURITY= near any existing SOP&POP SET commands or towards the end of the file. Start the command in the left margin and press ENTER at the end to skip on to a new line.

4. Save the changed file by left clicking on top File option at the top of the Notepad window, then left click on Save & left click on option Yes to finish. If at any time in Notepad you think you have got it wrong, just use File and Exit or at least say NO to any save prompts you get.

Windows NT/2000/XP

The set command needs to be added to the AUTOEXEC.NT file in the C drive, Windows, System32 folder

1. Find the file using 'My Computer', C drive, Windows Folder, System 32 folder .... you should see AUTOEXEC.NT. Right click on the file to get a list of options, then left click on Edit option.

From here on its the same as 2, 3, 4 for Windows 95/98

Finally .....

5. The PC will need to be restarted to make the change happen.

Making the terminal NOT login automatically.... You need to remove the SET SECURITY=USERNAME, PASSWORD line using the same method as above. Rather than remove it you might just put REM at the begiining of the line and it will be ignored ... but its easy to reinstate it if you need the feature later

Q How do I 'map a drive'.

A The problem is that, if you don't enter the domain name. ..... your email client thinks that the data entered is an nickname of the user, specified in your address book, and complains if it does not find corresponding nickname/email address in the address book.
